Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes is a deadly and silent disease that causes the death of millions of people in the world every year. This research was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of mindfulness on reactivity to stress, adherence to treatment and healing of foot ulcers in patients with type 2 diabetes in Gorgan.
Method: The current research was semi-experimental and pre-test-post-test with a control group. The statistical population of the study consisted of all people with type 2 diabetes in Gorgan Diabetes Association in 2023, and 30 people were selected using the available method and randomly replaced in two experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). The research tools were questionnaires of reactivity to stress, adherence to treatment and Wagner's wound criterion. The experimental group received mindfulness therapy in 8 sessions of 60 minutes, but the control group did not receive any psychological intervention until the end of the study. Research data were analyzed by multivariate covariance analysis and using SPSS software version 26.
Findings: The findings showed that mindfulness is effective on reactivity to stress, adherence to treatment, and healing of foot ulcers in patients with type 2 diabetes in Gorgan city (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Mindfulness therapy reduces reactivity to stress, increases adherence to treatment, and accelerates wound healing in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, this treatment model can be used as an auxiliary treatment to prevent or reduce the complications of type 2 diabetes.
