Abstract

Introduction: The purpose of the present study was to design and evaluate the effectiveness of play therapy methods based on acceptance and commitment on shame and anxiety symptoms in abused children aged 8 to 12 years.
Method: The present research was conducted with a mixed method. First, it was designed by relying on the concepts of acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and using Steven Hayes' mind training guide. 3 children from the city of Isfahan were selected with a purposeful method. Questionnaires of 71 emotional disorders screen and self-aware emotional test-child form were used. Data analysis was done using percentage of recovery, effect size, stable change and visual analysis.
Findings: The treatment was effective on the two variables of shame and anxiety. The face validity of the treatment method was confirmed by experts. The validity of the research was also done by analyzing the data of the single subject design, which showed the improvement of the performance of the subjects.
Conclusion: The treatment led to an improvement in performance, but the effectiveness of the treatment was more significant if the parents were trained. The results of the present research open the way for experimental research in order to increase the power of generalization of the findings.
