Abstract

Introduction: The purpose of this research was to compare cognitive-attentional syndrome and distress tolerance between women with fibromyalgia, women with chronic pain and normal women. Method: The sample of the present study included women with fibromyalgia syndrome (45 people), women with chronic pain (45 people) and normal people (45 people) in Tehran (2022-2023), who were selected by purposive and voluntary sampling method. The participants completed two scales of cognitive-attentional syndrome questioner and distress tolerance scale. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance and post hoc tests in SPSS-29 software. Results: The results of the one-way analysis of variance test show that the mean score of the pain catastrophizing is higher in the fibromyalgia group than in the chronic pain group (P 0/01). It is also higher in the chronic pain group than in the normal group (P 0/01). Also, the mean score of distress tolerance variable in women with fibromyalgia is lower than in the chronic pain group without fibromyalgia symptoms (P 0/01), and it is lower in the chronic pain group than normal women (P 0/01). Conclusion: According to the findings of this research, it is necessary to pay attention to cognitive-attentional syndrome and the weakness in distress tolerance in the treatment of patients with fibromyalgia and chronic pain in the agenda of psychological specialists for these two diseases.
