Introduction: The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral stress management group training on anxiety and depression of addicts who were under methadone maintenance therapy (MMT).
Method: 20 addicts who were under MMT were selected randomly from Pooya Addiction withdrawal Center in Rafsanjan and then assigned into an experimental group (n=10) and a control group (n=10). The experimental group received cognitive-behavioral stress management group training in 9 sessions. All participants completed the anxiety and depression subscales of SCL-90-R test as the pre-test and the post-test.
Results: Results of MANCOVA showed that the mean scores of anxiety and depression have significantly decreased in the experimental group than the control group in the post-test (p=0/01).
Conclusion: The results of this research showed that cognitive-behavioral stress management group training can be used as a useful interventional method for addicts who are under MMT.
