Introduction: The high rate of comorbidity between Mood & Anxiety disorders can be because of common processes trandiagnostic. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine role of two processes [Cognitive Attentional Syndrome (CAS) & Cognitive Emotion Regulation Strategies (CERS)] in development and maintenance of Mood & Anxiety disorders.
Method: Eighty nine patients (MDD=21 GAD=35 OCD=33) were selected from Taleghani & Baghiyatalah hospital by available sampling and (N=31) were evaluated by CAS-1 & CERQ questionnaires and compare with normal group. Then, data analyzed by ANOVA, Multivariate covariance & Bonferroni tests.
Results: Results showed that patients with GAD , OCD & MDD obtained scores more than normal people in CAS & maladaptive Cognitive Emotion Regulation strategies (rumination, self-blaming, catastrophizing). This difference remained after considering comorbidity between these disorders.
Conclusion: CAS & some Cognitive Emotion Strategies (rumination, catastrophizing, self-blaming) are transdiagnostic processes and play critical role in development and maintenance in different mood & anxiety disorders.
